A cartoon-based gastro-guide in Aix
An olive-based trail in Marseille’s Panier
and
Graeco-Roman Banquets in Marseille’s Jardin des Vestiges
I’ve just caught up with the expo ‘Bon Appetit, Lolmede Se Met a Table’, in the Aix tourist office – which I really enjoyed much to my surprise as I’m not usually into cartoons; but what Laurent Lolmede has done is produced a series of views of Provencal gastronomy, visits to vineyards, typical products, interviews with chefs and so on in newspaper format, as well as on blow-up panels on the walls. Here for instance is Nathalie Souzan at her vineyard near Pertuis with info on her, her wine and her chambres d’hotes.
It’s an unusual, quirky guide to the area through the lens of gastronomy – the expo is free and runs to 30th September. Plus you can pick up a free copy of the newspaper which is fun, bright and interesting.
Over to Marseille now and news of the Itineraire de l’Olivier which is a 2km trail around the Panier. There will be pop-up exhibitions, workshops, tastings, masterclasses…………..7-15th September, details here: https://www.mpg2019.com/evenement/rassemblements/marseille/itineraire-de-lolivier/13EVT102464/
Many of you will have already visited the Jardin des Vestiges, the site of the original docks created around 600BC, making Marseille the oldest town in France. Lots of work has been going on to renovate this area beside the Centre Bourse – the official re–opening is mid-September. So to celebrate, and fit in with MPG2019, there will be five banquets of Graeco-Roman food on 22, 24 and 25 September. Plus, rather delightfully, there will be a Graeco-Roman food-truck over the weekend of the Journées du Patrimoine! https://madeinmarseille.net/53129-insolite-participez-a-un-banquet-greco-romain-dans-le-jardin-des-vestiges/
