Here are two exhibitions to enjoy, both opening soon in Aix.
The first brings us the work of three women, who live locally and who met at the Atelier Libre in town. American Lynn Rousseau has been painting her colourful impressionist works, inspired by the Provencal countryside, for 15 years. Rosine Richer is back in her native Provence after 40 years in Paris. She works with simplified forms and vivid colours. Laurence Breeden who teaches French at the IAU in town likes to capture the local colour and light.
Visit to meet the artists, enjoy their work and also experience this gallery housed in a centuries-old building tucked behind the cathedral.
Provence has also inspired German artist Miriam Hartmann who has Galerie A in town. Her new exhibition, Souvenirs de la Provence, shows her landscapes, mainly produced ‘devant le motif’ as well as watercolours by Jean-Michel Bouchardy and work by Pierre Masbanaji.
September opening Wed, Thurs, Fri: 10h – 13h; 14h – 19h — Saturday– 9h30 – 17h30. Galerie À, 9, rue Loubon, Aix en Provence
In parallel, the Maison de l’Espagne has invited Miriam to show her series ‘SOLEILS D’HIVER A GRENADE’ inspired by her visits to Spain. Here she celebrates the co-existence of the Christian, Jewish, and Muslim cultures as reflected in the architecture and gardens of Grenada -which has been twinned with Aix now for 40 years.
Date : 7 September– 12 October 2019: Tuesday and Thursday :10H-13H / 14H-20H: Wednesday and Friday: 14H-19H: Saturday: 9H30-18H30. Maison de l’Espagne, 9 rue Mignet, Aix.
Another centuries-old building, this was part of a 13thc Dominican convent, built by Charles II count of Provence. Another good reason to visit!
Hello Lynne, Thank you very much! Do you think it would be possible to correct our names though? My name is Breeden and Rosine’s is Richer. If too late don’t worry about it! Looking forward to meeting you, Laurence
