First up is the wine and gastronomy festival, Bacchus, which has been running now for 20 years. For three days, 23, 24 and 25 March, the town centre will be filled with stalls, street entertainment and music. Visitors can taste local Provencal wines of course but also those from other regions of France and Italy.
Two things to look out for: there’s a special trip on Le Petit Train Gourmand, which takes you around town stopping four times for tastings, Saturday 9-12:30, 17€; or there’s the Bateau Gourmand for a tour of this major French naval base with tastings on board ship, 11:00, Sat and Sun.
Of course the restaurants are fully involved – here’s a useful map of those who have special offerings and menus for the festive weekend: http://www.bacchus-fete.com/restaurants/
The second treat is a photography exhibition on the theme of people in their urban environment, both in France and the US. With work by photographers like Diane Arbus, Brassai, Cartier-Bresson and Doisneau, before we get even further down the alphabet, this should be an unmissable show. ‘DES VILLES ET DES HOMMES: Regard sur la collection Florence et Damien Bachelot’ is at the l’Hôtel départemental des Arts du Var until 22 April. Tue-Sun, 10-18:00, Free. More detail in this press pack: DP Des villes et des hommes
