At last a chance to try Segond, the patisserie run by Philippe Segond who is apparently the only ‘meilleur ouvrier de France’ in action in Aix.
At the top of the cours Mirabeau, it is in the building which used to be ‘Riederer’, a family of Swiss origin who had been in town since the 18th century. This closed in 2013 but has been relaunched with new backing by Philippe Segond who is a Riederer via his mother.
But let’s get on to more important things like the cakes! I like to try something new, something I couldn’t make at home, and I think their ‘Soprano’ fits the bill. It is and I quote, ‘ sable au café, pana cota au café caramilisé, nuage crème marscapone parfumé a Ameretto et chocolat au lait. Couldn’t knock that up in the kitchen!
My partner in crime had a Sumatra which was very zesty: Coeur d’ananas, croustillant de coco et mousse de citron vert – and she pronounced it delicious.
Actually considering the artistry from the meilleur ouvrier de France, the cakes weren’t all that expensive and the coffee was good. The café has an elegant ambiance and the staff were pleasant. I’d recommend it!
Thank you for the recommendation.
You’ll love the cakes I’m sure…
