Two traditional festivals plus one definitely not traditional take place this coming Sunday 22nd May. There’s the Fete des Vins at Rognes, the Fete du Fromage at Banon….and throughout France, the Fete de l’Autoroute!
The Fete des Vins in the typically Provencal village of Rognes sounds fun. Visitors can taste 150+ wines from 35 domaines in the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence. There will be a procession of vintage tractors, a Provencal market, games for children and a tombola where you can win your weight in wine. From 10:0hrs.
Further away, the lovely village of Banon is celebrating its famous cheese on May 22nd. It’s a bit of a hike from Aix but it’s in pretty countryside and the Banon cheese is wonderful. Details here: http://fetedufromage-banon.fr/
And finally, the Fete de l’Autoroute which is taking place throughout the country. One event near to us is the closure of the Prado Tunnel from 11-16:00hrs. The open space by the péage will be full of activities like pétanque, karting, loto and painting on a giant canvas, while the tunnel will be open for pedestrians…there will be music and dancing with loungers on a pop-up beach.
A little further afield, people have the opportunity to walk over the Millau Bridge….how memorable that would be!
