Following the previous post about the celebration of 150 years of Impressionism, here are the two works that have travelled south, again to where they were created. In this case though, the painters were very local.

La Lavandiere, by Paul Guigou.
This is one of his studies of working people, often washerwomen, who Guigou painted in Provence. He portrays them scrubbing clothes in Cassis, by the Durance, in village lavoirs…He produced 400 paintings before his death at just 37 years old.
At: the Musée des Beaux Arts, Marseille
Until: on loan until 22 September
Closed: Mondays or if it is windy. The gallery forms part of the Palais Longchamps whose fountains are probably an issue if there is a mistral. If unsure, call before setting out – 04-91-14-59-30.
