The Velodrome is the place to be on Saturday when Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band will give their first performance in Marseille. It’s a sell-out concert – 80% of the tickets went almost immediately.
What has surprised locals though is the boost to the local economy. Hotel-owners are very happy – ‘ca a explosé’ one delighted hotelier commented; and the Radisson Blu in the Vieux Port has sold nearly every one of its 189 rooms, as well as expensive suites.
Only the Beyoncé concert did better.
But it’s not a case of Swiftonomics. This includes the crazy situation where tickets are so expensive in the US that Taylor fans can fly over to a European gig more cheaply, B&B included. Apparently in Marseille the audience for Saturday, apart from some incomers from neighbouring countries, is primarily French. Cue a chorus of ‘Born in the South of France’ maybe?
What with this and the Olympics, it’s looking like a good summer for Marseille.
We’ll be there!
I bet he’s great, live. Have fun!
