This is the new novel, set in Aix, from local writer M.L. Longworth, and I have been glued to it for two days.
It’s a real page-turner and I love all the familiar locations: a patisserie in the cours Mirabeau, a body found in rue Boulegon, a car-ride out to Gordes, the view from an apartment near rue Cardinale, shenanigans on the TGV. It all makes a delightful and familiar backdrop to the mystery which surrounds the finding of a painting by Cézanne…or is it?
It would make a brilliant Christmas gift for anyone who loves Aix and a good read.
It’s on sale in Book In Bar, or via Amazon, and you can read more about Mary Lou at http://www.mllongworth.com. Meanwhile, here is the publisher’s description:
‘In their fifth outing, Antoine Verlaque and Marine Bonnet are searching for a murderer – in a crime connected to Provence’s greatest artist.
A friend in his cigar club asks Antoine to visit René Rouquet, a retired postal worker who has found a rolled-up canvas in his apartment. As the apartment once belonged to Cézanne, Rouquet is convinced he’s discovered a treasure. But when Antoine arrives there, he finds René dead, the canvas missing, and a mysterious art history professor standing over the body.
When the painting is finally recovered, the mystery only deepens. The brushwork and color all point to Cézanne. But who is the smiling woman in the painting? She is definitely not the dour Madame Cézanne. Who killed Rene? Who stole the painting? And what will they do to get it back?
Yes isn’t this one fun? We’re so enjoying reading it together…and since Verlaque lives on our street we often find ourselves looking out for him 😉
Well you had better behave yourselves!!
