Oh dear.  Those wonderful palm trees that for most of us are the essence of Riviera chic are under threat.  It comes from what The Times has called a ‘ruthless invader’.  It’s the 42mm long red palm weevil which arrived in France in 2006 on some palms which came in from Egypt. (more…)

Sunday 2nd December: Christmas tree installed in the Place des Precheurs.  It’s a 13m whopper and will have beside it a letter box for children’s messages for Father Christmas. They are asked to include their address and should post it before 20th. The French Formula 1 Grand Prix will be taking place at the Paul Ricard circuit again this summer, 20-23rd June 2019, the second event of a five-year contract bringing the sport back to Provence.

Of course it is a memorable occasion with the world’s top F1 teams, the Patrouille de France, music, animations……but what is it like to go there?

Having been in Angleterre, I almost forgot to add a post about the fantastic annual ‘Voeux d’Artistes’ which is now showing in Marseille.

Over 100 artists donate at least 11 pictures, all 20x20cm, all framed, for sale, 120 euros each. Forty euros from each sale goes to making life just a little easier for children hospitalised at La Timone.

This ten day sale ends on Sunday, 25th November.

At Maison de l’Artisanat et des Métiers d’Art (MAMA), 21 cours d’Estienne d’Orves…..just off the Vieux Port, and a lovely centre if you haven’t visited.

Daily 10-19:00hrs.
