Responding to an SOS for Marmite for le fils Aixcentric on my visit last week, I searched in vain for little pots which would pass security as I was travelling hand luggage only. The smallest local supermarkets had were 125ml jars, over the 100ml limit.
Friends in Aix tipped me off that it was still available in Monoprix…and that’s where I bought the last pot – sorted.
But I was surprised at Heathrow to find that liquids must all now fit in one small bag with the top fastened, 8″x8″. I haven’t travelled hand-luggage only for a while but it seems to be a recent ruling: certainly two young ladies in front of me were having to ditch lotions and potions, all pleading of ignorance in vain. Marmite in fact counts as a liquid.
Anyway, I don’t need to import Marmite to France any more now I have discovered the Utile at the top of cours Gambetta has expanded sideways into the former PO, and has a British shelf.
So here you are, if you are yearning for: digestive biscuits, PG Tips, Yorkshire tea, lemon curd, Marmite, Branston pickle, Heinz beans with sausages, malt vinegar, Heinz sandwich spread, and/or Robertson’s Ginger Preserve which I have never heard of….no HP sauce.
Try as I might though, couldn’t find de-caf tea-bags (builders’ version). I forgot to bring some with me and at least they would pass security checks!
La marmite est la nourriture de l’âme (might have gotten lost in google translate)
Tres bien… je suis d’accord!
