Aix: Family Fun on Sunday
May 9, 2023 by aixcentric
There are two annual events in town on Sunday. You can choose between the Fete du Velo or the Aix Vide Grenier, or enjoy both if you happen to be a bargain-hunting cyclist.
The cours Mirabeau is an ideal space for the activities that are planned for the day which will take place from 10–18hrs. There will be free supervised bike parks at both ends for visitors.
At 11:30, cyclists from villages around Aix will arrive in the cours, no doubt greeting each other and weighing up each other’s bikes as cyclists tend to do when they get together. Then a ‘spectacle’ called ‘Elliot the Peaky Biker’, which promises a mix of humour and acrobatics, takes place at 12:30 14:30 and 16:00.
Passionate cyclist, le fils Aixcentric, has been to the Fete in past years and tells me the activities are great for both seasoned bikers and young starters: there are info stands, workshops and displays of BMX jumping. Last year’s highlight apparently was a rider on a tight-rope!
Meanwhile….in the Places Comtales, near the Palais de Justice, it’s the annual Aix vide grenier, which gives local families chance to sell their unwonted items and of course bargain hunters opportunity to rummage around to see what they can find. It’s taking place all day, 8:30- 18:00 hrs.
Sunday 14th May promises to be fun for all the family.
