I had never realised there was a French title for one of our national favourites – Les Hauts de Hurlevent. Love it!
Very little is known about its author Emily Bronte. So writer and director Frances O’Connor has taken the outine of her life and scripted an imaginary narrative for the novelist. It’s a case of… this could have happened…what if?
Off we go then to Yorkshire to visit the Bronte family, parsonage and church; meet the young curate who intrigues Emily; and join with her and brother Branwell as they race across those wuthering heights. O’Connor concocts an engrossing narrative.
The Guardian’s film critic Peter Bradshaw wrote that ‘Emily’ was “beautifully acted, lovingly shot, fervently and speculatively imagined”. The lead, Emma Mackey, is wonderful in the role.
It’s the first film by Frances O’Connor – what a debut. The shoot, all in Yorkshire’ began on 16th April 2021 and was finished by 26 May.
At the Renoir from today
as is ‘Everything, Everywhere, All at Once’ which is being awarded with everything, everywhere, all at once……….
