Aix is in for a major Cezanne celebration in 2025 including an exhibition at the Musée Granet.
This will include a ‘parcours culturel’ between the major artistic sites – the family home at Jas de Bouffan, his studio and his beloved Bibemus quarry where he used to paint.
His studio was purpose-built in 1901 and that’s where he worked each morning until he died in 1906. As visitors will know, it has been so sensitively maintained that it looks like he just left for a day painting the Sainte-Victoire. It currently welcomes over 100 000 visitors a year.
In 2018, the town acquired a building just down the slope, ‘La Maison Bellevue’ which will be a hub for functional activities to ensure that the artist’s studio can be experienced peacefully. The two will be connected by a walkway.
Jas de Bouffan, over to the west of town, is where the Cézanne family lived, and has been under Covid-interrupted renovation for years. The structural work on the fabric of the house is done which is good as it was in very poor condition before closing.

Like the studio, the Jas will have a new reception building opening onto the Avenue de l’Europe, again to be a hub for tickets, info, classes and no doubt a gift shop!
Anyone who was around in 2006 will remember the huge ‘Cézanne en Provence’ expo at the Granet and all the attendant hoo-ha in town. Prepare for Aix-en-fete!

Love your work, Lynn. We sure have to be patient for these new places, but it’s been worthwhile. You and Bob take care. Robert
