For those who haven’t visited before, these shows take place in an abandoned limestone quarry with huge rough walls – giant digital images of artworks are projected at speed across the interior – they even carpet the floor. Music, often specially commissioned, accompanies the narrative.
Artistic Director Gianfranco Iannuzzi explains: ‘I would like to offer visitors an alternative cultural experience where they are no longer passive spectators but actively enter the very heart of the artwork, as if the latter were an immense stage and the visitor an active participant in the performance. When I see children playing with the images on the ground or couples dancing to the music at the quarry, I feel we have met our objective.’
The current show Venice/Yves Klein runs until 2nd Jan 2023.
