Hot town summer in the city, back of your neck getting dirty and gritty?
If so, you might like what Marseille and Aix have done to soften their urban environments this sweltering summer.
In Marseille, the quai du Port will be pedestrianised daily from 10am, from the Ombriere to fort Saint-Jean. Vegetation, flowers and loungers will help create a stylish area for relaxing while families can head to play areas, a climbing wall and boulodrome. There are 40 stalls at an artisanal market…Buses and le petit train will leave from the bottom of La Canebiere.

Meanwhile in Aix, the shopping area Les Allées Provencales has been covered with an art work entitled Green Sky.
Marseille-based artist Mimmo Carabetta has created an ombriere of thousands of hand-sewn flowers along with 800m2 of hedges and 2000 artificial plants to shelter shoppers from the sun. Pretty!
