New to Aix’s post-Pandemic dining scene, and therefore new to me, Le Singe Vert presents a stylish terrace, all rattan furniture and fresh flowers, to passers-by at the bottom end of the cours Mirabeau.
It used to be the Haagen Daas icecream cafe but has been extended right back into what was a travel agency and on into a courtyard garden. So what was a network of small offices has been transformed into charming little dining areas with period furniture, chandeliers, and wallpaper featuring the eponymous monkey.
Stepping inside from the bustling sunny terrace felt like quieter, more intimate dining experience which provided a sense of social distancing. Ideal for a leisurely catch-up with friends which was our aim.
Resigned to the usual salad, I was delighted that the daily specials included a vegetarian plat, navets boules d’or. We wondered what this would be – as UK northerners, we assumed ‘turnips’ which southerners call ‘swede’ and Americans know as ‘rutabaga’. It turned out to be something else, something local to Provence perhaps, Golden-Ball Turnips, but delicious anyway: the stuffing included gorgonzola cheese and the turnip sat on sweet potato puree. The service was friendly and relaxed. Details of the menu are here: https://lesingevert-restaurant.fr/menu/
Le Singe Vert is open daily and I would be more than happy to lunch there again.
