Murder in Provence: New TV Series in March
January 11, 2022 by aixcentric
Many of you will be familiar with the series of mystery novels set in and around Aix by locally-based Canadian author M.L. Longworth. Each one brings a fresh challenge to Antoine Verlaque, investigating judge in Aix, with his romantic partner lawyer Marine Bonnet, who together track down the villains through vineyards, the Provencal countryside and the atmospheric streets of centre ville.
Now Britbox, the BBC and ITV-owned streamer, is bringing to the screen three episodes, each one an hour and a half, and each based on a book. These are the first three books in the series, Death at the Chateau, Murder in the Rue Dumas and Death in the Vines.
Mary Lou told Aixcentric, ‘They filmed almost a solid three weeks in downtown Aix in late September. Apparently the actors all fell in love with Aix. The producers tell me that Aix looks great on screen, aided by the fact that the weather was fantastic during the shoot’.
‘The team is English: the producers are Alison Owen and Debra Hayward. They’ve both done fantastic films and have formed their own production company. The script is by award winning playwright Shelagh Stevenson, who lives part of the year in Provence, and I’m thrilled with their choices of cast’.

This includes Roger Allam, (Endeavour, The Thick of It), Nancy Carroll (The Crown), and Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman).
BritBox UK managing director Will Harrison said: “We hope that Murder in Provence will be the first of many global originals made exclusively for BritBox subscribers. The books by M.L. Longworth seem to be tailor-made for television.”
March 1st is the launch date. What a treat for us all…

Many thanks for this…as living just north of this beautiful cultural city…anything from there is a bonus…sadly it looks like you have to be able to have access to FireTV and/or Britbox…and I do not seems to be able to get these here in France…but will try again…
Yes they did some filming in the Luberon. It would be a shame if you couldn’t get to see it.
One suggestion is Express VPN
EXPRESS VPN in France works for UK TV
Thanks so much
Thanks! Love Aix and love Verlaque & Bonnet. I’ve read all the books in the series and, in this time of Covid fatigue, a Britbox series based on ML Longworth’s books is just what we need!
A real treat in store for us!
Hi, thanks for the info on this upcoming show – not having Britbox either is it really on French TV? In which case if you know what channel, you can set your French TV remote to English & see this on VO like many English or American films that are broadcast across a rand of film channes on our Orange package ( OCS-film,Arté, TCM
Hello Deanna
I believe this series of programs has been made by company for BritBox. I was hoping they had a joint venture with one of the French channels but maybe not. Someone has recommended express VPN so that might be worth following up. It looks really good! Best wishes Lynne
