The annual Epiphany celebration which normally takes place in centre-ville early January has been cancelled: the organisers felt that there was no way of socially-distancing the procession of kings, shepherds, Provencal dancers and children – or indeed the numbers of people who line the streets to see them go by.
They hope this popular event will be back in 2022.
At least the Aixois can still tuck into the traditional galettes des rois on sale at all the bakeries early New Year. You can choose between the version with candied fruit (the jewels on the crown) or the traditional Provencal galette which has a sweet almond filling.
Remember to watch out for the little figurine or feve inside!
Hi Lynne,This post reminds me of the time I was driving from Le Pecouret and rounded a corner to see camels grazing on the right. My heart skipped a beat!! I think they were part of a circus and not part of Noel celebrations.Thank you so much for all your posts. We love being in touch and each one reminds us of YOU. We hope you stay well! We have heard the news of the more contagious variant of Covid in London. As long as Camilla is still able to leave the ER in California, we will all 3 be winging off to our favorite British Crown Colony on the 26th. Last week her hospital could no longer transfer patients to bigger hospitals like the one at Stanford. To get a room for a patient, another one had to die. The patients are lining up in the ER, too much like in Italy last spring. But we heard tonight that the CDD is recommending that folks of our age be included in the next round of vaccinations after the health workers. We hope that will be in. time to allow us to come to France new summer. These are dark times, but your posts always bring us light. And, as I have said, I always think of you and Bob enjoying the Sunday newspapers as we enjoy the Boston Globe around the dining room table chez nous.Bisous to you both!Beth and Larry
