You may remember announcements about the large-scale developments planned for the airport – read here: https://aixcentric.com/2017/12/10/marseille-provence-airport-news-2/
So what is the latest on these plans, given the massive impact of Covid on air-travel this year?
Even after the end of confinement, passenger numbers were down 73.3% in July and 62.8% in August. In fact the airport has announced that it could take until 2024 for them to get back to their normal 9m a year. But they feel that air travel is vital for the local economy and that the central redevelopment will go ahead. This is the building you can see in the photo which links the two existing terminals which date from the 50s (T1) and the 90s (T2). This will provide more facilities for services like baggage handling and checkin, as well as shops and cafes. But the second phase of a jetty for 10 planes will be postponed for the time being.
