Now only Aix and Marseille affected
Local elected representatives, including Aix’s Marysse Joissans and Martine Vassal, head of the Metropole and the Bouches-du-Rhone, have met with the prefect of PACA and the Minister of Health, securing some significant concessions:
- Only the towns of Aix and Marseille will be subject to the blanket closure; elsewhere in the Metropole, cafes, bars and restaurants can open, but need to be closed 22:00-06:00hrs.
- The new regime kicks in Sunday evening, not today, so restaurateurs can use up food supplies.
- Re-opening will be considered after 7 days, rather than 15.
- Restaurants can switch to home delivery service.
- More money to be assigned to hospitals in Covid frontline.
- Local point for daily stats to be established in order to track pandemic more effectively.
Politicians from all parties united to wring these concessions. Lots here: https://france3-regions.francetvinfo.fr/provence-alpes-cote-d-azur/bouches-du-rhone/marseille/covid-seules-aix-provence-marseille-sont-concernees-fermetures-bars-restaurants-salles-sport-1877734.html
Thank you for the article on ML Longworth’s books! Wow.
I wonder how our fave haunt, Mairie Brasserie is doing. Alex, the mgr. was always so kind and efficient as was the sweet waitress Clothilde. My husband misses the Onion Soup which we learned not to call “French Onion.” Ha!
Sadly all cafes in town centre closed for at least a week from tomorrow. So difficult for people running businesses…
