The opening date was set for 2021, but after four years of negotiations, the Aix authorities have decided not to proceed with the deal to establish a major museum in the old Prêcheurs convent. It would have housed the extensive collection of Picassos held by his daughter in law, as well as being an important cultural centre in the heart of centre ville.
This is what was proposed:

And this is the new situation.
What a shame agreement couldn’t be reached. Madame Hutin is now looking for a new venue and Aix is looking for someone to take on the lovely old convent.
What a shame, perhaps she could look at the Couvent Royale in St Maximin which is now closed down as a hotel……
Yes it would be good as he must have driven past from Cannes to Vauvenargues
Originally the convent was designated to be the new home for the Natural History Museum of Aix, which has been homeless, its rich collection stored in a warehouse, for the past few years. THAT would be a worthwhile project to revive!
Maybe suggest at the Mairie? I wonder what their strategy is on these decisions? I’d certainly like to see the tyrannosaurus of Trets back in centre ville.
What a shame! The museum would have been a great draw for Aix-en-Provence.
