Tomorrow, 26 January, sees the return of Les Dimanches de la Canebière, the monthly street celebration in central Marseille. The theme is ‘Arts de la rue’ which will see street artists spilling out across the pedestrianized area.
An ‘acrobate-grimpeur, Antoine Le Menestrel, will be climbing the façade of the palais de la Bourse with, says the programme, ‘poésie et fantaisie’. Look out for this half-hour animation at 11:30 and 15:45 which will be accompanied by ”Les lézards bleus ‘. I haven’t experienced any of the troupes performing on Sunday but feel that the French are pretty good at this sort of entertainment – we’ve seen some really memorable performances. Should be great for the children!
Music is on the programme too and includes traditional Haitian singing and dancing – music courtesy of their band plus bamboo pipes of different lengths.
Various restaurants will be open including La Mercerie, Le Petit Saint Louis, Chez Toinou, and Yima…..or you can graze at the produce market or at the food trucks.
The new pedestrianisation at the bottom of the Canabiere is making that area much more festival-friendly and I read that plans are afoot to construct a large covered food-market/food-court, possibly in the elongated ‘square’, lhs as you walk towards the port, currently occupied by the carousel.
Plus local green activists have plans for increased greenery – read on:
