Here, in posters, are 4 suggestions for the coming weekend – 14-15th September:
La Fete du Vent will be taking place on both days, down on the beach in Marseille. It’s the 34th outing for this annual festival during which 180 people will be demonstrating their skills at acrobatic kiting, including the world champion from USA. New this year is a focus on women, with 30 from across Europe showcasing their very varied creativity in 3D kite-making. There will be a pop-up village of stands. It sounds wonderful!
In Aix, the accent will be on Provencal food on Saturday with the Banquet Mistralien in the Parc Jourdan (It would have been Mistral’s birthday). There will be a ‘marché des saveurs’, wine tasting, music and dance. All free except the ‘repas gastronomique’ prepared by Rene Berges (La Table de Beaurecueil), Eric Sapet (La Petite Maison de Cucuron) and Philippe Segond (Patisserie Philippe Segond) which is 50 euros and by reservation only. From 11:00, details: https://www.aixenprovencetourism.com/en/fiche/28083/
The annual competition to find the best tree in Europe is fascinating. The winner this year didn’t seem to be very remarquable. (https://www.treeoftheyear.org/results). I much preferred the French entry, a gnarled old specimen from Corsica. But I’m sure everyone has their favourites!
Trees are much in the news now as we are all urged to plant/conserve as much as possible – and good to see so much planting alongside the new Aixpress route. Anyway there is a free film showing twice on Saturday which celebrates Les Arbres Remarquables. Details on the poster.
Finally if you want to get involved with community life in Aix, there will be 400 stands in the cours Mirabeau on Sunday promoting dance, music of all types, different sports, language-learning, painting…….something surely for everyone!
Which could also be said for this weekend.
