There’s a special opportunity to go backstage at the Marseille Opera, during 3-5th May, as part of the national ‘Tous a l’Opera’ programme.
Established in 1787, the Marseille opera house is the second oldest in provincial France (after Bordeaux) and is large enough to accommodate 1800 spectators. The visit will take you into the wings and behind the scenes, giving you a glimpse into the work of the artisans who make the stage come to life.
I did this visit some time ago with the Anglo American Group of Provence (https://www.aagp-provence.com/) and my favourite part was climbing high into the ateliers under the roof where all the costumes are made. Really memorable.

If you go from this website, through to the national one, you will find details of a full programme on the Saturday when there will be makeup workshops for children, and rehearsals taking place in various studios.
There is also a link to similar activities at the Opera house in Toulon.
