The Guardian this week is reporting on the French chain O’Tacos currently expanding here faster than Macdonalds (which is itself in growth mode). It was started by three former school-friends from a working-class part of Grenoble to cater for a young crowd who wanted nutritious and affordable fast-food.
The French taco, which bears little resemblance to anything Mexican, is a cross between a grilled panini, wrap and kebab, with everything sealed inside a vast rectangular parcel – fries included. There is often a pile-up of different meats jostling together, such as chicken nuggets and merguez sausage, and several sauces. It was described by one French food writer who couldn’t finish one as a “hymn to junk food”….says The Guardian.
Apparently politicians in small towns in France are encouraging O’Tacos franchises to boost deserted high streets.
I hadn’t realised there is one in Aix: 9 Cours Sextius if you want to visit….It’s clearly great for hungry students but not one I’m trying out!
