Back in June 2014, the Galerie d’Art du Conseil General des Bouches-du-Rhone in the cours Mirabeau closed – read about it here: https://aixcentric.com/2014/06/22/aix-gallery-closing/
It was put up for sale for 6.4m euros but didn’t attract any takers, largely as it is a listed building and can’t be adapted to commercial purposes. So happily it has just re-opened, with the snappier title of 21 bis Mirabeau.
The new exhibition is part of the MPG2019 programme.
Artist Pierre Maraval has taken 1000 portraits of people from the pays d’Aix who work with food and these are currently on show at MuCEM. Our gallery in Aix is exhibiting 184 of them – shots of chefs, bar-staff, wine-producers and so on. Each is defined either by job-title or by a word that they feel is important to them.
It’s probably more interesting for people familiar with this sector, but I was happy to see this gallery in use again after such a time.
It’s just down from Monoprix and is open Wed-Sun, 11:30-18:30. The photos are on show until June 30th after which a new exhibition will be launched. All we know about this is that the subject will be – you guessed – gastronomy!
