Cats and cakes are the twin passions of 27-year old Morgane who has just opened Le Meow Cats’ Café in Aix. Big thanks to Susan whose report follows:
Meow Cafe was sweet. It’s up a tiny side street and very casual. There are double doors to get into the cafe, so the cats can’t get out. It was very warm inside, I think to keep the cats warm. It was filled yesterday (and today also as I rode past just to see) mainly with young people and mainly women. Then there was me and one older man came in, but I don’t think any of us felt out of place.I had a chocolat chaud in a cute cat mug. They have some menu items and have hand sanitizer on every table. They have games and cards to play so you can just hang out. There are many places for the cats to climb up onto the walls and a sort of boardwalk up high they can (and did!) walk across – and lots of places for them to sleep. Their food and water are there, and there is a cat door into an area where I presume their litter is. There were 3 cats. One was sleeping up high the entire time, but the other two walked around, said hello to most of us and let us pet and play with them. There are toys around so anyone can play with them. This all sounded very new and different to me (thanks to Cheryl for the heads-up) but no, one already opened in Marseille back in July. Article here from La Provence which has details of You Tube footage of the Marseille café: https://www.laprovence.com/article/sorties-loisirs/5364771/aix-le-meow-cats-cafe-va-vous-faire-miauler-de-plaisir.html
There is also a lovely cat cafe in Avignon! At least there was in september 2018! So fun!
And I learn in Paris too. Maybe a French thing?
