Everyone I have spoken to has been saddened by the announced closure of the Librarie de Provence. Now there is an online petition to show local support. They aim to get 5000 signatures and were well over 2500 when I checked this morning. Thanks to Jennifer for this link. Over to you…..
Cinema news now and interesting repercussions of the ‘gilets jaunes’ activity. A couple of the shop workers I have talked to say that business in Aix has been doing OK: many people have preferred to stay in town rather than running the risk of accessing out-of-town centres. Figures from the Cézanne bear this out. The month of November saw a 45% rise in admissions, compared with 2017 (+21,000 entrées) whereas the cinema at Plan-de-Campagne only saw a 5% increase. During the first weekend (17 Nov), the Plan cinema had a drop of 40% customers. The films on show are broadly similar.
No doubt that the disruption has been really tough for business: in Marseille, small shops and the Christmas markets have been badly hit. To try and help this situation, parking has been made free, in 9 central car-parks, Sat and Sun15-16, and Sat and Sun 22-23. 10-19:00hrs.
Hi Lynne
I just signed the petition but do u understand what is the problem? The petition doesn’t really explain.
