Here’s the latest, courtesy of La Provence:
- In three months’ time, most of the roads will be sorted, ready for the eventual launch of Aixpress
- Ave Victor Hugo is coming on fast – work progresses now on the other side, due to be finished early 2019
- No work will be going on at the Rotonde over the holiday period. Concrete blocks will be taken away to give pedestrian access to the fountain. They are promising a ‘surprise’ for its lighting.
- Ave des Belges has some complicated pipework to fix, all the while working around traffic and businesses. Expect a completion April-May.
- There will be two new junctions with traffic lights to replace roundabouts at Jas de Bouffan (nr Géant) and at Pasino. These will give priority to the Aixpress bus.
- L’Avenue d’Europe, at 1 km long, will be finished in January.
- The forecourt of Aix’s railway station will be modernised and will become a transport hub bus/train/velo.
The 6th November marks the first anniversary of the work which started at the university and at Jas de Bouffan, before beginning in town in January. Most of the heavy stuff should be done by early 2019 but they will have to install bus-shelters, bins, benches, lighting and so on.
The bus itself will undergo tests in April or May.
Launch date is la Rentrée 2019.
