Just opened in Aix: the remake of ‘A Star is Born’, from first-time director, actor Bradley Cooper. He delights in being able to conduct the occasional interview in French and guess where he learned it?
Yes, none other than Aix-en-Provence where he spent 6 months as part of his US university course back in 1995. Since then, he’s had a successful acting career, but A Star is Born is his first time both behind and in front of the camera. Which must have been a challenge as he also had to learn to play guitar and sing in order to play his character Jackson, a failing country/rock star.
The plot revolved round his relationship with a rising star, Ally, brilliantly played by Lady Gaga. What a voice.
I saw the VO version which was good as the French subtitles helped me with some of the American soundtrack, specifically Jackson’s elder brother. This alternates with VF.
At 2:16, it could have been edited a little, but the undemanding story moves along and the music is getting great reviews. Enjoyable – and everyone I spoke to afterwards had enjoyed it too.
