We don’t really need an excuse to visit Cassis at this time of year, especially with the weather so amazing, but this weekend, 21-23 September, has an extra temptation in the shape of their gastronomic festival – Les Vendanges Etoilées.
There will be demos from 50 chefs at key points of the village: place Clemenceau, Esplanade Charles de Gaulle and place Baragnon. New this year – drinks ideas from Victor Delpierre, ‘Champion du monde barista et cocktails !’
There will be the obligatory market with producers and artisans showing their specialities: truffes, foies gras, huiles d’olives, fruits secs, fromages, miel et vin de Cassis. Nearby restaurants will be offering special menus ‘Vendanges Etoilees’. More: http://www.les-vendanges-etoilees.com/fr/
Nearer to home is Food’Aix in the Parc Jourdan, a day-long celebration of local food and Provencal culture. From 11:00 you can enjoy the market and taste local products. There will also be, from 12:30-14:30, Le Déjeuner Provençal organised by 3 local chefs, which needs to be pre-booked. Chefs and menu here: http://www.aixenprovencetourism.com/fr/fiche/33800/
From 15:00 there will be ‘Hommage à Frédéric Mistral’, dancing, folk songs and the Ballet provençal ” La Capouliero”. Saturday 22nd September.
