Looking ahead a little, I have learned that the ‘Invité d’Honneur’ this year is to be Nobel prize winner, Turkish author, Orhan Pamuk.
The event runs at the Cité du Livres, 11-13th October, and Orhan Pamuk will be taking part in events and signings. I expect tickets will sell out quickly so keep an eye on http://www.citedulivre-aix.com/citedulivre/
Six weeks to go which gives us time to read a couple of his books – ‘My Name is Red’ is a wonderful novel but hardly a ‘quick read’. His complexity and insightful prose though is a truly rewarding experience.
Thanks to Anne at Book In Bar for this heads-up info. Book In Bar is the place to go for English books in Aix – they are stocking up on works by Pamuk in preparation for the conference and will have a table there in October.
Also looking ahead, the Journées du Patrimoine weekend takes place across France on 14-16 September. The theme for Aix is to be ‘Le Décor dans tout ses états’. There is a 48-page book available now which links facades, balconies, ironwork, atlantes, coupoles, frescos and mascarons across town, an interesting way of looking at the rich decorative heritage of Aix.
It’s such a well-produced free book – worth getting hold of.
It’s available at the tourist office at the Rotonde but you have to go to the counter to ask for a copy……..
Please know that the Fête du Livre (October 11-13) with Orhan Pamuk as guest this year is, and always was, free. No need to rush and get tickets, as you suggest.
Thank you for the info. So people just turn up for the event….?
