Double-Oscar winner, American actress Jessica Lange, is currently showing her photograpy at the Campredon Centre d’Art, at Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, for the first time in France.
Back in 1967, she won a scholarship from the University of Minnesota to study photography, but Hollywood beckoned and she played many leading roles: her Oscars for best actress were for Tootsie in 1983 and Blue Sky in 1995. Only later, in the early 90s (when Sam Shepard offered her a Leica M6), Jessica Lange returned to the practice of photography, concentrating on taking pictures of her travels and wanderings, in particular Mexico, ‘for its lights and wonderful nights’. The collection, which includes 135 photographs (including 12 contact sheets) taken over the last twenty years, is divided into two parts: Things I See and Mexican Suites.
The Campredon Centre d’Art is based in an elegant 18th century townhouse, on the river. There is a large car-park on the opposite bank, across the bridge. The exhibition runs until 7th October.
Open daily exc Mondays, 10-13:00, 14:40-18:30hrs.
