You could swiftly move on to Marseille for the Bal Patriotique which takes place in the Canebiere from 14:00. It will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Armistice after WW1, and also be in memory of Desiré Bianco of Marseille, the youngest soldier to die in the war, on 8th May, aged just 13.
There will be 40s jazz and swing music, vintage vehicles and activities for children.
The Mairie of the 1st and 7th arrondissments of Marseille is working hard to attract visitors back into centre ville.
And finally over to Aix…..
If you already have a ticket to the opening night at the Cannes Film Festival, you can look away now.
If not, you can join in the fun from the Renoir cinema in Aix, which will have footage direct from the red carpet, followed by transmission of the opening film. It’s ‘Everybody Knows’ starring Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem. In Spanish with French subtitles. The show starts at 18:45.
