There’s a good film in V.O. at the cinema in Aix, ideal if you want to get away from the wind and rain forecast.
‘A l’Heure des Souvenirs’ is based on the Booker-prize winning novel, ‘The Sense of an Ending’ by Julian Barnes. It’s an intriguing book, telling the emotionally complex story of a group of schoolfriends and the ramifications of decisions made, actions taken, long ago.
It translates well into film especially as the cast is terrific: Jim Broadbent, Charlotte Rampling, Harriet Walter, Michelle Dockery, Emily Mortimer all give superb performances. At the Mazarin.
Last week, we also enjoyed ‘Marie Madeleine’ (finished now) which features Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara, as Jesus and Mary Magdalene. The pair also star in a new film from Gus Van Sant, ‘Don’t Worry He Won’t Get Far on Foot’. Just started at the Renoir and could be worth a watch.
Great film that follows the book line, I enjoyed it as much as the book
I actually read the book again. Unusual to have both film and book equally absorbing!
