Firstly some news on the Aix Carnaval. It’s a revival of a centuries-old tradition and, for the last few years, has filled the cours Mirabeau and Rotonde with huge floating figures, floats of excited children and a great deal of confetti. It will be taking place this year, on April 22nd, but in a different location near the Pasino, owing to the ‘travaux‘ for L’Aixpress bus. More details nearer the time.
- On the subject of the travaux, work is about to start in ave Victor Hugo and down past the railway station – it’s expected to last until the autumn. Click for map:travaux
Fontaine de Vaucluse – still no access allowed
- Still on the subject of travaux, work of a different kind is starting at Fontaine de Vaucluse. Followers may remember a post explaining that access to the source of the river Sorgue had been closed due to rock falls. The diagnosis of the problem areas has been made and remedial work will take about 6 weeks. It’s a shame as the source is pumping out water at a terrific rate: lots of rain has done the trick after the long period of drought which had seen the water level sink unusually low. The source in full flow is a wonderful sight and the translucent river Sorgue is idyllic. One for the list, later, if you haven’t visited.
- Last chance to see! ‘Tal Coat’ at the Musée Granet, ‘Botero dialogues avec Picasso’ at the Hotel Caumont and the fun-fair at the Stade de Carcassonne all end on Sunday 11th March.
