Last summer saw the bi-centenary of Jane Austen’s death; there were events and
celebrations across England. Visiting friends in Winchester in the summer, we went to the cathedral where she is buried. Amongst the art-works created in her honour, was an open book for messages, right next to her stone on the floor. People from all around the world had written such moving tributes, almost as if they were talking to her. Universally popular.
