The annual ‘Marche des Rois’ is taking place on Sunday 14th January. It’s a must for families, photographers and lovers of Provence. The three kings will be in procession with their often recalcitrant camels, sheep and goats, Arlesiens on horse-back, musicians and dancers, plus little angels and page-boys.They set off at 13:50 from the Ecole Saint Joseph and make their way slowly down the cours Mirabeau, stopping frequently for music and traditional dancing. Their final destination is the Cathedral where there will be a traditional service, starting at 16:00.
These images were from last year’s procession where I just had to record the final touch to the procession – commendable and very necessary under the exciting circumstances!
I was there last year, too! I look forward to this year’s parade, too. It’s quite a delight for culture-seekers.
It always amazes me how many volunteers there are to take part in this procession. So special!
