This magazine from ‘La Provence’ is a mine of information for those cooking and dining locally. This issue (Septembre-Octobre) spotlights bouillabaisse and prints recipes from various renowned chefs.
I always like the section where they review new restaurants – there are 16 featured, among them:
La Famille in Uzes: a young couple from Paris, plus longstanding friends, have set up in the vaulted area of the pretty Place aux Herbes. Roman Kolinka has family locally in the shape of Jean-Louis Trintignant, his grandfather – his father is Telephone drummer Richard Kolinka. His partner Yoko was brought up in Japan and brings Asian influences to bear on the cuisine in this wine-bar/restaurant. Assiettes 3.50-7.70 (2 to 3 needed for a meal) or salads and plats 13-16 euros.
Chic Planete in Avignon: Marketing manager Sebastien Boudine got into vegetarianism while working in Montreal and decided to bring back the concept to France. His products come from his father-in-law who has a 5-hectare bio farm nearby. The canteen feel has been inspired by south American cucinas – family cooking in a friendly ambiance. Dahls, coconut curries, chili sin carne, soups…and végé-burgers. Menu around 13 euros, plat du jour 9,50.
Les Terrasses by David et Louisa in Isle sur la Sorgue: this apparently has the feel of a guinguette, situated as it is alongside the river. They have 70 places inside – more on the terrace. Again, local products and 200 wines on the carte. Eight rooms available. Plat du jour 17.90, menu 26 euros.
There are another 7 to try in Marseille, plus one new place in each of: Aix, Gordes, Sault and Saint-Cannat.
