If you are in Aix, you will be aware of the massive amount of work going on around the Place du Verdun and the Place des Precheurs. And readers of this blog will know that the archaeologists have been working one step ahead of the diggers to retrieve any remains and also understand the history of this ancient area.
They are giving a series of weekly talks, Les Causeries du Palais, from now until June, then again Sept-Dec, to make sure the locals are kept up-to-date with their findings but also the issues.
Tomorrow, Sandrine Claude, a medieval specialist, will be talking about the Precheurs, the Dominican order who gave their name to the square. They turned up in town in the 13th century and had a significant effect on this area.
Then the following week, May 9th, Nuria Nin who is the head archaeologist in Aix will be tackling the sensitive issue of human remains which emerge during a dig.
Talks are at the Maison de l’Espagne in rue Mignet, and start at 18:15. Talks are in French. Details: http://www.aixenprovence.fr/Les-causeries-du-Palais-la-memoire-partagee-6702
