That’s the choice this coming weekend (30th April) as there are street celebrations in both towns.
Marseille is having its monthly ‘Les Dimanches de la Canebiere’, when this legendary road is traffic-free and open to all sorts of animations to delight visiting families. The event was inaugurated in January and we felt that, though there were crowds there, more local shops and cafés could have been open.
Visiting again in March, the event was much better supported in that there were more stalls and shops getting into the swing of things. It’s gathering momentum and hopefully will help businesses in the centre to counteract the new developments in the docks. This Sunday’s event has a flamenco vibe – read about it here: https://www.frequence-sud.fr/art-47668-les_dimanches_de_la_canebiere__4__marseille
There will be six food-trucks feeding the crowds, or I can recommend the Green Bear Coffee Café which is at 123 La Canebiere, menu here: http://www.greenbearcoffee.com/menu.html
Later in the day, it’s the Aix Carnaval.
The organisers invite us all to take an imaginary journey in the company of Gratte-Ciel, a company from Arles, who will be providing the wonderfully-designed aerial attractions, along with floats of Aix schoolchildren who are delightful in their excitement…..and lethal with their confetti.
It leaves the top of the cours Mirabeau at 15:00 and goes to the Rotonde for the Grand final aérien at 16:00hrs. More: http://www.aixenprovence.fr/Carnaval-d-Aix-2017
Of course there is always the International Rosé Festival down at Sanary if you prefer a seaside experience.

So much to enjoy!
