Following on from my last post about Provence’s famous mountain, the latest ‘En Balade’ has details of a hike from the Chalet Reynard, around the sides of the Ventoux, from where walkers can get terrific views. You don’t have to cycle up to enjoy the experience!
Each year, over 700,000 visitors walk on the mountain, and now, two erstwhile roadworkers’ depots have been transformed into visitors’ centres: one is dedicated to local geology, flora and vegetation, as well as focusing on the people who have explored the area; and the second tells the story of cars and record journeys. Apparently the record is held by someone who drove up in 9,03 minutes at an average speed of 142 kph.
The magazine reviews the food at the Chalet Reynard itself with its seasonal offerings, like their plateau-skieur or their plat des pates for the cyclists.
There are masses of ideas for outings of all types. The pages on Porquerolles couldn’t be a more complete contrast to those on Mont Ventoux.
