This delightful annual festival celebrates everything to do with goats. There are different breeds in pens for the children to pat and stalls selling goats’ cheese by itself or in quiches and sandwiches; the animations tent has (in past years) little wooden goats for children to decorate, or goats’ masks to colour in then wear. This being Provence, of course you will find stalls selling local wine to go with your picnic and an extensive area of wooden tables to enjoy it. Rognes is a typically Provencal village and this is a wonderful opportunity to see it en fete.
Throughout the day, there are carriage rides around the streets and if you want to eat more than a picnic, the restaurants are serving goat-themed menus on Sunday. Here is the agenda for the day…
Parking in the central car-park is usually quite difficult (this is a popular event), so my advice would be to park in one of the marked spaces as you drive into the village from Aix, and walk in – it’s not far.
