To attract visitors back to frequenting – and spending money – in centre ville, the mayors of the 1st and 7th arrondissements have devised a programme of entertainments in a pedestrianised Canebiere on the last Sunday of each month, a great idea. I reported on our visit in January here: https://aixcentric.com/2017/01/24/marseille-surprises-on-sunday/
This coming Sunday, March 26th, the event will have ‘Musique’ as the theme.
This will range from L’Orchestre d’Harmonie d’Aix en Provence via chorales, electro, jazz, hiphop, groove, soul, reggae and funk.
I reported that on our visit, there were very few places to eat. Sounds like the situation is improving with food trucks coming in and an area at the produce market where people can snack on their purchases.
‘Nour d’Egypte’ is offering an Egyptian brunch which sounds fascinating, while ‘Le Ryad’ hotel has mint tea and patisseries in its garden.
Here is, in PDF format, the full agenda for the day with all participants mapped along the street: dimanches_canebiere_depliant_mars_2017_v2_2
I do hope this programme succeeds and the local shops will open too to add their offerings to the thousands of people who come into Marseille’s centre ville to enjoy the ambiance.
