Bouc Bel Air – Exhibitions in the Ancient Chateau
January 17, 2017 by aixcentric
‘Bouc’ means small hill in Provencal, and it’s this hill that has given its name to the village of Bouc Bel Air. Right on
top, the inhabitants built a castle in the 7th century as a defence against barbarians… and this chateau is still very much part of the community. It’s been wonderfully restored and plays host to exhibitions and events. What a treat to wander around such an ancient building.
Until 22nd January, the ‘Salon des Laureats’ shows the work of local painters and potters, lots of different styles, so
something for everyone to admire.
Don’t worry if you miss this as there is another exhibition to follow, showing the work of three more local artists.
Fi Katzler studied Fine Art in the UK and then in France at Gardanne and the Leo Marchutz Art School as well as working as an assistant to Jill Steenhuis. Predominantly a ‘plein air’ artist, Fi loves to paint the local landscape and likes to paint energetically, with bold strokes and vibrant colour.
Kelly Raynaud is a talented ceramicist but for the last couple of years, she has been concentrating on garden sculptures as well as making « black on black » incised pottery with Southwest Pueblo/Mata Ortiz influence.
Born in Washington, DC, O’Neill Cushman has lived and worked in Aix-en-Provence for several years. ‘His work is centered around the idea that a work of art is structurally parallel to nature, and his form of self expression is through a phenomenological investigation of these natural structures’.
So three very different artists – and your chance to meet them and see their work is at the vernissage of ‘Peintures et Céramiques’ on 3rd February at 18:00. Alternatively, just pop into the chateau 3-12th February. It’s easy to find – – – – just keeping heading up that bouc!
OTHERWISE:
Mon, Tues, Fri = 14-17:00
Thurs = 10-13:00
Wed, Sat, Sun = 10-13, and 14-17:00.
