but we have to wait until 2018.
The rumours were finally confirmed yesterday that the Paul Ricard circuit would be holding the event.
It’s the first time the Grand Prix has been held in France since 2008, when it was last hosted at Magny-Cours in Nevers. And 26 years since it was held at Paul Ricard. It must have been lucky for the French as Alain Prost won there in the final three GPs, 1988, 1989 and 1990.
PACA President Christian Estrosi spoke at the press conference: “Today I can announce clearly, firmly, and finally, the return of the French Grand Prix for the summer in 2018 in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, at the circuit Paul Ricard,” he said.
Interestingly, in a full-page ad in today’s La Provence, he has claimed that it will bring 65 million euros to the region along with 500 jobs ‘directs et durables’.
When? the circuit director is hoping for end August/early September 2018.
How Much? he is quoting an average price of 150 euros for a 3-day pass, in line with Spa and Barcelona, though obviously much more for the best seats.
What next? A 2 million euros investment in a new track and general spruce-up including more stands.
