Today sees the launch of a show of illustrations by the amazingly talented René Gruau who worked for major fashion and style publications during his long and creative life. There was a big expo of his work in London a couple of years ago and his skill at drawing and composition was so breath-taking.
His illustrations are now being collected by museums like the Louvre. You can see 150 of them at the Galerie Pentcheff in Marseille until 4th February.
Details here: http://www.galeriepentcheff.fr/evenement-exposition-foire/ The website also has thumbnails of all the works on show!
Meanwhile, over at the Vieille Charité, Le Banquet de Marseille à Rome : Plaisirs et Jeux de Pouvoirs also begins today. According to the publicity, its objective is to show the importance of the formal meal by reconstructing a banquet from antiquity including what they ate and drank, how they behaved, and what they did which runs from ‘l’art de la rhétorique aux jeux érotiques’. Well that’s different!
The Vieille Charité is organising a full programme of visits and conferences to support their new exhibition (http://vieille-charite-marseille.com/index/actuellement/le-banquet-de-marseille-a-rome-plaisirs-et-jeux-de-pouvoirs) which runs until June 30th. Must visit!
