Christmas is a perfect time to enjoy the wonderful music of Bach and next weekend there is an opportunity to do just that when the Academie Bach Aix celebrates its fifth anniversary.
Its new president, Robert Wildau told Aixcentric: ‘This will be the group’s biggest event ever. A devout love of Bach’s music and a profound understanding of its spiritual significance animate its performances’.
At the ‘A Fleur de Bach’ festival, singers and instrumentalists from all over Europe will perform in cantatas for the Advent season, small instrumental ensembles and even jazz-oriented improvisations for piano and cello.
Gilles Cantagrel, former director of France Musique and honorary president of the Academie, will introduce various works and give a lecture about Christmas in Leipzig, Germany, during Bach’s time there as Choirmaster.
Showings of the 2003 Swiss film, “My Name is Bach,” and tastings of a local craft beer brewed specially for the festival will lighten up the intervals between concerts.
