Shuttling between the UK and France is interesting on many levels; but one of the differences I always notice is the ever-changing foods available in British supermarkets. France seems to stick to good quality much-loved ingredients while shops in my UK town offer things I’ve never heard of. Freekah anyone?

Seaweed – a new superfood in 2016
through food as never before’. It’s the latest status symbol and a must for sharing on Instagram. The key trends during 2016 have been….coconut flour, cactus water, buckwheat, chia seeds and seaweed.
Next year’s top-sellers will be
aubergine, sales up 18% this year, while Polynesian food like Hawaiian poke will be 2017’s ‘must-eat snack’. Also trending watermelon juice and vegetable yoghurt which, says Waitrose firmly, we will be soon adding to our weekly shop.

They have been selling in their hundreds of thousands, even though the supermarkets now have ready-spiralized vegetables in packs.
I found it a bit of a faff, and as usual with these things, a challenge to wash after use – but twirly ribbons in salads do look pretty.
