As the holidaymakers head home from Provence and the little ones go back to school, it’s time to dust down Aixcentric and get blogging again.
There is so much to do this September and this will be the theme of the next few posts….lots coming up!
The national Journées du Patrimoine celebration is taking place on Saturday and Sunday 17th and 18th September. The countrywide theme is ‘Patrimoine et Citoyenneté’ and Aix has interpreted this as ‘Tous citoyens du Patrimoine!’ Aix does like to differentiate itself – the Hotel de Ville in the picture not only has the usual Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité on its façade, but someone added for good measure Generosité and Probité, probably because there were five windows to decorate.
There is a 64pp book available which outlines all the activities and also updates us on the progress on some of the major renovations projects being undertaken across town. Apart from the ‘Project des 3 Places’ in the centre, Cézanne’s home at Jas de Bouffan is finally being restored, the Madeleine church is still closed as is the marvellous monumental staircase at the Hotel de Chateaurenard. These are multi-year projects but all should enhance Aix, eventually.
Over the weekend though there will be opportunities to visit sites, listen to talks and take guided tours. Click here for the pdf of the book which has all the details: jdp-prog-bat_livret_2016bd

Life seems to return to normal with the reappearance of your blog. Thank you
Thanks for your kind remarks. Now let’s see if I can still speak any French after the long English summer. See you Friday?
